Quality inspections at Technomix.

Dimensional inspection

Dimensional inspection verifies geometric features and dimensions of components on the basis of technical drawings and specifications. The aim is to ensure compliance with defined tolerances and dimensional accuracy throughout production.

Dimensional inspection

Securing geometric accuracy – reliably meeting tolerances

Deviations from nominal dimensions can lead to assembly issues, functional problems or increased wear. Dimensional inspection ensures that components meet specified dimensional and form tolerances and are manufactured in a process-stable way.

Depending on requirements, inspection is performed manually, semi-automatically or fully automatically. Individual dimensions, form and position tolerances or complex geometries can be verified.

Dimensional inspection is a central part of series-accompanying quality assurance.

Which characteristics are inspected?

Within dimensional inspection, the following properties can be assessed, among others:

  • Length, diameter and height dimensions
  • Distances and angles
  • Form and position tolerances
  • Fit-relevant geometries

The choice of measuring equipment depends on component geometry, required accuracy and lot size.

Which inspection methods are used?

Dimensional inspection can be carried out using different measurement and inspection technologies:

  • Manual measuring equipment (e.g. calipers, micrometers, limit gauges)
  • Optical inspection methods as part of fully automated camera inspection
  • Tactile or sensor-based measuring systems in automated inspection lines
  • Special inspection machines for inline control in series processes

For high volumes or complex geometries, dimensional inspection can be integrated into fully automated inspection systems.

Typical use cases for dimensional inspection

Dimensional inspection is used in particular:

  • During incoming goods inspection
  • During series production
  • In safe-launch phases
  • For supplier qualification
  • As part of complaint analyses

Depending on requirements, inspection is performed as sampling or as 100% control.

In which industries is dimensional inspection used?

Dimensional inspection is required in all industrial sectors where geometric accuracy is critical to function, including:

  • Automotive and supply industry
  • Aerospace
  • Mechanical and plant engineering
  • Medical technology
  • Electronics industry
  • Metal processing

The specific design of the inspection depends on the component, accessibility, lighting conditions and the respective quality requirements.

How dimensional inspection is carried out at Technomix

Dimensional inspection is performed on the basis of technical drawings, inspection plans and agreed tolerance requirements. Depending on the component and series volume, suitable measuring equipment or automated inspection systems are selected.

For rotationally symmetrical or complex components, automated inspection systems with integrated image processing are available.

Results are documented and statistically evaluated where required.

Organisational integration is handled within our quality management system according to DIN EN ISO 9001.
