Depending on requirements, the inspection is performed manually, semi-automatically, or fully automatically. Individual dimensions, form and position tolerances, or complex geometries can be checked.

Dimensional inspection is a central component of in-process quality assurance.

Which characteristics are inspected?

The following properties, among others, can be evaluated as part of dimensional inspection:

• Length, diameter, and height dimensions
• Distances and angles
• Shape and position tolerances
• Geometries relevant to fit

The selection of measuring equipment depends on component geometry, required accuracy, and quantity.

Which inspection methods are used?

Dimensional inspection can be performed using various measurement and inspection technologies:

• Manual measuring tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, go/no-go gauges)
• Optical inspection methodsas part of fully automated camera inspection
• Tactile or sensor-based measuring systems in automated inspection systems
• Special automated testing machinesfor inline inspection in series production processes

For high volumes or complex geometries, dimensional inspection can be integrated into fully automated testing systems.

How is dimensional inspection carried out at Technomix?

Dimensional inspection is performed based on technical drawings, inspection plans, and agreed-upon tolerance specifications. Depending on the component and production volume, suitable measuring equipment or automated inspection systems are selected.

For rotationally symmetric or complex components, automated inspection systems with integrated image processing are available.

The results are documented and statistically evaluated as needed.
